Venturing forth on another expedition to Teachers College to further explore Readers Workshop.

2011

Back in the saddle again for Round 3. K and I are ready to add some shine to our Writers Workshop strategies this summer. Until we jump on the bandwagon Monday morning we are taking note of the metropolitan environs... and then some.

2010

After jumping in with both feet, teaching Readers and Writers Workshop in our classrooms for a year, K and I are back at Teachers College for Act II. We are attending Readers Workshop and will be filling the bill with more strategy focused morning and afternoon sessions. Until Monday, when the training gets underway, we are obligated to paint the town red, (or "read", as the case may be).

Jaw Dropping Shopping

The entrance to our home away from home is just under that blueish-greenish awning.

Worked on using mentor texts to model craft moves in writing, writing partnerships, non-fiction writing, shared vs. interactive writing...  Perhaps a lot of mumbo jumbo to those not in education/writing circles.  Perhaps a lot of mumbo jumbo to ME 4 months ago.  Thank goodness for the 2 day introductory workshop we had with Sean Lindsay in the spring.  The background knowledge I garnered then has made it possible for me to skirt some of my homework while trying to keep up with the three Energizer Bunnies  in my company.

We have been getting most of our breakfast groceries at the nearest corner market.  Good, groovy selection that satisfies most our basic needs.   However, there is a price
for convenience. Usually about double the price.  ...We'll live.

So for our Thursday evening field trip K, L, and I did an extended neighborhood cruise that incl
uded a trip to Fairway Market.  Ahhh, pure grocery heaven.  It was a fully stocked stocked store with an entire department for everything.  Most fun though was the cold room.  It's a refrigerated room  with all the refrigerated foods inside.  Before you enter the cold room you get to accessorize your outfit with a silver, quilted, ski jacket, guaranteed to keep you just toasty enough to comfortably peruse each and every nook and cranny of the
quar
ters.  I'm sure we made lots of friends in there since we had to stop and stare at all the incredible selection available - like a whole aisle of yogurts- and freakishly friendly prices. We were constantly blocking aisles.  We left with plenty of  fixin's.

Fairway was right along the Hudson River.  That's New Jersey in the background.

  1. I wish we had a Fairway Market in Aptos. Of course, confronted with a "department for everything" I might explode from overchoice! Those silver sleeping bags make the cutest accessories. Did you cook those turkey drumsticks in your microwave back in your room?
I've always heard that it is good to keep a river between you and Jersey.
    Love, mas
